Hannah Montana Helps Miley keep her role model status

Even in spite of some of the criticism fired off in her direction, “Hannah Montana” star Miley Cyrus is still hoping to inspire young kids both with her TV show and her actions in real life.
In a new interview, Miley claims that playing her famous Disney Channel character has been helpful for her to maintain a role model status:
“So I think it has made the transition easier, because I never said I was going to be perfect. I never really put on a persona. I’ve always been really honest about who I am."
“And yes, I want to be a role model and have people look up to me. But this also doesn’t mean that I am not going to live the way I want to live, or do what I think is right.”

Many parents have proclaimed that Miley is exactly the “opposite” of a good role model, beginning with a controversial Vanity Fair photo shoot and most recently continuing with her new album “Can’t Be Tamed” (and its music video).

Miley J-14 interview. Did you expect so much success from Hannah? I think I knew it would be a success because the writers are so incredible and the script was amazing. But I don't think I expected it to be like the phenomenon that it is. I don't think I expected it to open so many doors for other artists on Disney to be able to involve music and acting and all that. I'm really proud to be a part of a really cool family. I'm excited to move on to new things. But I definitely didn't expect it to take off the way that it did, especially so soon. I can't believe it's already coming to an end, either. It feels like we just started.

How do you think you've changed? I think I've definitely changed a lot. When I came to the set, I had my mom. She was my assistant, makeup artist, hair stylist, and wardrobe person all at the same time. My mom had me in this t-shirt that she had got for me that says 'I should have my own TV show.' I had it on with my skirt and full face make up. I was just sitting there like, 'Oh my God, I'm on a Disney set. My life is like about to change.' Sure enough, it did. I just remember coming to work with full face makeup, and now we're all in our pajamas when we come to work. I'm definitely a lot more comfortable with myself and I don't need to feel like I need to get dressed up every day. This is just like a home to us.

Excited or sad for the show to end? I'm really looking forward to it. Right after this I go into an independent film called LOL with Demi Moore. With Hannah, I've been so attached for so long. It is so commercial and so franchised and done for such a big market. I'm going off that type of show into a film that is an indie movie. There isn't a huge distributor behind it. I'll be making a film that we think is going to touch people. It's got a lot of edginess to it and it's definitely not just for the fan base of Hannah Montana. You've just got to choose things that you really like and that are right for you at the time.

The end is in sight for Hannah Montana, as the show's 4th and final season gets ready to begin airing in mid-July. The final season, promoted as "Hannah Montana Forever", has Miley Cyrus (who plays "Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana" in the show) planning to hang up her wig...though contrary to a joke she made, she doesn't plan to really burn it (after all, there could possibly be more Montana movies at some point!).

Since the secret will soon be out to Miley's in-show closest friends, and then the world, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is planning a very special DVD for November 2nd, titled "Hannah Montana - Vol 07: Who Is Hannah Montana?". This release will carry 8 episodes of the show, and is billed exactly as you see it above in our headline: a sell sheet sent to retailers is topped with the claim that "Hannah Montana's Biggest Secret is Revealed on DVD First!...The Must-Have Collection For Fans!"

No further details or hints are given by the studio about the contents. But they do show that it will be a 182-minute disc in full frame video, with English Dolby Digital Sound, and subtitles in French and Spanish. Cost is $19.99.

Miley Cyrus can't catch a break. It seems like the world refuses to let her grow up. Everyone expects her to stay Hannah Montana forever, but it's time to face the facts -- it's not going to happen. She can't be tamed, and the more she's criticized, the more likely it becomes that she'll lash out with more risque outfits and girl-on-girl kissing. Come on, she's a 17-year-old teenage girl. They don't want to be told what they can and can't do. What's really bizarre is why the world is so focused on her when there are other teen stars acting the same way. Honestly, ever since 'Gossip Girl' star Taylor Momsen started wearing excessive dark eye makeup, donning her now trademark thigh-high garters and declared her hatred for wearing pants, why have we accepted that it's okay for this 16-year-old to be a role model ... when Cyrus is criticized for taking a wrong breath. Both underage girls rose to fame as cute actresses and then decided to hit the mainstream music scene. For the record, Momsen is younger than Cyrus. Gasp! So what's with the double standard?

So I promised I'm going to pin curl their hair and we are going to glue on the wig and they all have to wear the wig all day, all of them! We are also going to make them wear heels, dress as Hannah, and they can't eat all day because it might ruins their Hannah lipstick!'

With her longtime hit show Hannah Montana coming to an end, Miley Cyrus is ready to let her own personality take center stage. And that includes a racy music video that's stirred up a bit of controversy for the 17-year-old.

"You have to be who you are to the full," Cyrus said during a Good Morning America interview Friday, dressed in a studded leather jacket, David Bowie T-shirt and ripped black jeans. "There's nothing that I'm holding back. And that's what I want to give to my girl fans. Just be who you are."
In fact, Cyrus claims that her newest album Can't Be Tamed showcases the real Miley Cyrus. "This record is the first album where it's completely me," she says.
In a career that puts her right in the spotlight, Cyrus admits that growing up as a celebrity isn't always easy. "It's always going to be hard because there's so much stuff you've got to get through before you an get to the stuff that's real," she says. "There's all the people that are like, 'Yes! It's gonna be great! You're the biggest thing ever!' when really, I just want the truth. "

Alluding to the Perez Hilton paparazzi photo scandal, Cyrus says, "There are people that are negative just to be that way. You've got to push through all that and just be like 'This is my life.' "

Of course, with a life that includes being friends with Bret Michaels, things aren't all bad. Two the performed together on Good Morning America, singing a duet of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," which appears on Cyrus's new album as a dedication to her mom, Leticia "Tish" Cyrus. "Our families have been friends for a while," says Michaels. "She's a great musician and she's one of those people who will make that huge transition into remaining a superstar. She can rock it for sure."

And it seems Michaels was a big musical influence on Cyrus as a child. "My first concert was a Poison concert," she says. "That was an interesting night. I was probably about 8 and my mom dragged me and my brother."

My mom and dad got a little bit worried because it's a scary thing. But he got very lucky. I don't think his time is done."
After the release of the new album, Cyrus is set to shoot two movies. She'll play Demi Moore's daughter in the comedy LOL. "I think it's going to be good to be around somebody that I love and somebody I can look up to," Cyrus said. "She's so smart. She's had an amazing transformation so I think I can learn a lot from her."
And it was announced earlier this week that Ms. Cyrus will star as a high-schooler who gets sucked into the nightmares of psychotic people in the movie adaptation of young-adult thriller novel Wake. "It's not silly like zombies chasing you around," she said. "It's into the minds of maniacs and people in mental asylums. It's really kind of dark and scary. It has some gore in it, too."
Another album or a new tour will likely happen after she wraps both flicks, Cyrus said.
She'd also like to direct. Unfortunately, her dream project is no longer. "I would have loved to have been able to do The Nanny because that's my favorite show," Cyrus said. "Her outfits were amazing, and I would have been like, ‘If I'm your director, you have to give me all the clothes!' "
